What’s the difference between MDF and solid wood sublimation blanks?

MDF (medium-density fiberboard) is engineered, consistent, and affordable with excellent sublimation results. Solid wood offers natural grain and premium aesthetics but varies in density and porosity. Both require proper coating for sublimation; MDF generally produces more uniform color saturation.

Can I sublimate MDF keychains, ornaments, and signs with the same heat settings?

Yes, all MDF blanks use similar heat press settings: 400°F (205°C) for 45-60 seconds, with pressure adjusted for item thickness. Thinner MDF items like keychains may need slightly less dwell time, while thicker signs may require extended pressing. Test each product type first.

How do I prevent warping when sublimating MDF ornaments and keychains?

Avoid excessive heat or pressure that can warp thin MDF products. Use a protective pressing blanket to distribute heat evenly. Keep pressing time under 60 seconds and allow items to cool completely before handling. Store finished MDF products in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption.

Should I seal MDF blanks after sublimation for added durability?

Sealing MDF products with clear polyurethane, acrylic spray, or gloss finish after sublimation enhances durability and protection against moisture. This is especially important for items that will experience frequent handling or outdoor use. Sealing also increases perceived product value.

What’s the lead time for MDF and wood sublimation blanks ordered in Canada?

Most MDF and wood sublimation blanks ship from our Langley warehouse within 1-3 business days. We maintain robust inventory of popular items like keychains, ornaments, and signs. Custom orders or bulk quantities may require longer lead times; contact our team for specifics.
